Time is strange. Especially when it stops, and you don’t. This is the story of a long journey I took in the span of five seconds. My name is Ricky, and this is the story of how I came to lead God’s Hand.

It was a normal school day, in the middle of November. A week or two earlier, I had been in the school play, called “The Compleat Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged).” It was immensely funny, one of the best plays we’ve done, and I had a lot of fun being in it. Anyway, it was the beginning of the day, around 7:15am (I have to get up before the sun to get to school on time – how whack is that?) and school hadn’t started yet, but just about the whole school was waiting for the bell in the café. Of course, I walk in with some of my friends and sit down at the table where we always sit. I then take off my jacket & hat and attach them in some way to my backpack, which, by the way, weighs about 50 pounds (stupid textbooks!).

Now, I’m a quiet type of person, so I’m just sitting there, listening to the conversations around me, when another friend joins the table. He is known by a bunch of kids at school as Madame Bob, and he is as strange as the name suggests. As soon as he sits down, he looks at me and says, “OK, what is the difference between a Jew and a – “

He stops short, and I could tell he had just drawn a blank, and couldn’t come up with a new one for today. He knows that I don’t really like that kind of joke, and I know that he’s just fooling around. Yes, I’m Jewish, and I’m proud of it.

Now it was around 7:30am, the time the first bell rings. I stood up, put on my 50 lb backpack, and started watching my watch. As seconds ticked away, I noticed that it seemed like the entire school was in the cafeteria. I know, stupid thing to notice, but it never really came to my mind before. I thought there were usually a lot of kids outside the café, but not today, I guess.

Suddenly, the noise in the café died down and vanished completely. As I noticed that, my watched stopped and I felt a great, painful ripping sensation. I yelled and blacked out.
I have been writing this story since 10th grade, and it has yet to be completed. Here is the first part of my story "Five Second Story - A Journal from Heaven"
